The Rain Garden
This rain garden is what made me say yes to our house—a mix of natives and non-natives, a lovely view from the kitchen. Phlox, goldenrod, asters, lilies, stinking hellebore, cedars, and blue lobelia all thriving during drought. Cattails are made possible by a sump pump that lets out at the bottom of the rain garden—a lively water feature in an otherwise dry yard. It’s beautiful throughout the seasons, but this summer view was the first that had to be remembered during the snowy times. It brings the garden to an otherwise blank wall and warms the winter.
